So the good news is that The Last of Us movie is still very much on the way. The bad news is that we're not going to see it any time soon. Speaking to IGN, Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann has confirmed that Ellie and Joel's apocalyptic adventure is still in the works for the silver screen but it's currently stalled.
"I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do," he explained. "There hasn't been any work done on it in over a year and a half." It was rumoured last year that Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams was lined up to take on the role of our favourite pun-hungry survivor but clearly all has gone quiet on that front.
When it comes to the Uncharted movie, it doesn't seem to be faring much better. This still has an official release date from Sony of June 30, 2017 but the way Druckmann's talking makes that sound rather unlikely too.
"Every once in a while they'll come in and they'll present to us: here's the script, here's what we're thinking. We'll tell them what we think works, what we think doesn't work," he said. "That's where we're at. Last I heard is they got a new screenwriter, but we haven't seen anything in a while." Druckmann also stressed that it's key for the team at Naughty Dog that the characters are just right.
"The most important part to get right is Nathan Drake, Nathan Drake's relationship with Elena and Nathan Drake's relationship with Sullivan. If you don't get that right, I don't think the film's going to work. If you get that core right, there's a chance it could work." Well if you don't want to take that chance, you could always just find out 5 reasons why Uncharted 4 is totally different this time around.
