Rumour: Justice League Dark is seeking Colin Farrell for John Constantine

It's been a long and, um, dark road to production for Justice League Dark. A longtime passion project for Guillermo Del Toro, when news broke that he was no longer going to direct there was a valid concern over whether the production would move forward.

A new rumour suggests that Warner Bros. are indeed pressing ahead with Del Toro's script and are seeking out stars to fill out roles. Specifically, Latino Review are reporting that Colin Farrell is being courted for John Constantine; Ewan McGregor had apparently been approached about the role previously, but Farrell is now the frontrunner. Should the movie come to fruition, Constantine will be fighting alongside Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Deadman, and Etrigan the Demon.

Justice League Dark will not be the first time Constantine has made it to live action; Keanu Reeves previously played the chain-smoking antihero in 2005's Constantine, while Matt Ryan (who bears an uncanny resemblance to the character) earned positive reviews for his portrayal in NBC's ill-fated Constantine TV show.

Although he is not a natural blonde, Farrell - who is currently filming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - would be an interesting choice should he win the role. It would also make him one of the rare actors to swim in both the Marvel and DC universes, as he previously played Bullseye in 2003's disappointing Daredevil.
