James Cameron calls Terminator: Genisys a renaissance

Creator of The Terminator James Cameron is centre stage in a new featurette for the fifth instalment in the series, Terminator: Genisys. The sequel reimagines the original timeline and spruces it up by changing the events of Terminator lore. This time around, Kyle Reese’s rescue mission to save Sarah Connor in 1984 is thwarted when he discovers she doesn’t need his help; she’s been prepping for his arrival for ten years...

Offering up his initial thoughts after seeing the film - “I feel like the franchise has been reinvigorated, like this is a renaissance” - Cameron slaps Genisys with his seal of approval. He goes on to classify it as the third movie in the series, essentially ignoring the sequels he wasn’t involved in - Rise of the Machines and Salvation. Watch the full featurette below for the rest of Cameron’s comments:

There’s plenty riding on Genisys - two more sequels, in particular. Given that most of the trailers and *that* character reveal have been met with mixed reactions, hearing Cameron heap praise upon the film and all of its divisive changes is a promising sign.

Terminator: Genisys opens in the US on July 1 and the UK on July 2.
