Citing what he calls “an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world”, Samuel L Jackson has let it slip that he has yet to close a deal to play Nick Fury in Iron Man 2.
In fact, according to the actor, the lack of a solid offer might see him out of everything Marvel, including The Avengers and The First Avenger: Captain America (not that there was a role for him in that one in the first place, you understand.
"I saw Jon Favreau at the Scream Awards and we had a conversation. He said, 'I hope things are working out for you because we're writing stuff for you.' Then all of a sudden last week I talked to my agents and manager and things aren't really working that well."
Negotiation breakdown
“There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don't know. Maybe I won't be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won't be in it", Jackson tells The LA Times.
"There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so they're saying to me, 'We're not making that deal.'"
Yeah… it sounds to us like sabre rattling aimed at securing the deal. But if Terrence Howard’s recasting teaches us anything, it’s that Marvel won’t hesitate to go another direction if need be.
Chances are Nick Fury will return, but if not… Who would you want to see in the role? Tell us in the comments – but please, no David Hasselhof references.
