GameTap announces major updates

Turner Broadcasting System's GameTap has announced that it will be incorporating some major updates at the end of the month. The site will be adding new features to subscription play, free-to-play gamesand a new digital retail storefront.

The new digital store will have games available online the same day they're shipped out to stores. Lara Croft will be the mascot of the online market, with her newest game, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, being the first synchronized real world and downloadable release. With a little luck, GameTap might be able to put a little bit of a squeeze on the current game retailers.

"This is the first new deal with a major game publisher that will enable GameTap to feature the hottest games of today and tomorrow for subscription play in the same windows as traditional retail outlets," said Stuart Snyder, GameTap's senior vice president and general manager.

The new site goes live on May 31 and will feature over 30 free-to-play games - made possible through our good friend advertising -with more to play every week. The launch titles include Metal Slug from SNK Playmore, Taito's Bust-A-Move and Space Invaders, Tomb Raider: Legend from Eidos, as well as Midway titles Joust, Robotron: 2084, and Rampage.
