It's the late Middle Ages and everyone wants to reach the sanctuary found within the castle walls, but some have less pure intentions than others. In Gate Guard Simulator, you are cast as the gate warden – the last bastion of law and justice, tasked with rooting out the ne'er do wells to keep everyone safe. As seen in the latest gameplay trailer at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase powered by HyperX, this is sometimes easier said than done.
Helpfully, bureaucracy appears to be thriving in the 15th century, so this is your starting point as you investigate each individual who arrives through the portcullis. Request their papers, then check that the details match up across the various documents, while also ensuring any official seals applied are correct and haven't been forged. Keep an eye on the posters that appear on the castle noticeboard, as they may help you to identify a wanted fugitive who is trying to sneak through your checkpoint.
However, the task doesn't end with the paperwork, as you also need to check any goods they are transporting for contraband or worse being smuggled into the castle. Suspect your visitor may be carrying an unpleasant disease? Pop on your plague doctor mask and look through their outer clothing to see if any nasty conditions are lurking underneath. Ensure your checks are thorough, though perhaps an occasional bribe could convince you to look the other way. Remember – every choice has its consequences...
Gate Guard Simulator is planning an unspecified 2026 release date on PC via Steam, so you should wishlist it now and follow @GateGuardSim on X to keep up to date with the latest developments.

His words have also appeared in OPM, OXM, PC Gamer, GamesMaster, and SFX.
