"Break in, take it, get out" - Cordura is the new psychological survival horror that looks like Dishonored by way of Little Nightmares, and I'm creeped out already

Oh god, I don't think this is going to go ve-WHAT WAS THAT THING?!

Upcoming psychological survival horror game Cordura, just got its first proper story trailer as part of the Future Games Show's Spring Showcase powered by HyperX, and if what we've seen is any indication the end result is going to be terrifying. A cinematic trailer that sets up the Cordura's premise, the two minutes that ensue frame a Victorian-era burglary to what might be the worst house to step foot into.

A grizzled, leering cockney voice sets the tone, presumably explaining the job that will lead our poor heroes into the lion's den. "It's a simple job, for men with nerve," he croaks ominously, and things really go downhill from there. See, our scarred and moustachioed gangsters have been hired to break in somewhere and steal... Roses?

It's not clear yet what value these flowers have, but what's far more ominous is that the building they're break into has... Well, I was going to call it a vault, being a big armored door that can only be opened from the outside, but framed in another context, it could easily be a prison door... Is anybody else feeling queasy?

From there we see snapshots of horror, devoid of context but dripping in atmosphere. A veiled figure moving in the shadows. Our characters being taken over by some abyssal darkness. And perhaps worst of all, that prison door slamming shut behind us when the guy who's supposed to be keeping it open freaks out and abandons his post.

Yeah, I'm not feeling optimistic, but as a horror fan, I can't deny I want to see this through. I especially love the drawn, textured art style, which feels very much like Dishonored with a splash of Little Nightmares thrown in. Horror fans, I think this is one to keep an eye on.

Cordura is being made and published by indie developers Garage 51, and though its release date has yet to be announced, players can expect it to be released on Steam and PlayStation 5 when it does come out.
