When you start out in Anno 117: Pax Romana, there's a lot to do. You've got residences and production buildings to construct, population needs to fulfil and resources to provide. At first, all of this can feel a little overwhelming, but once you get the hand of things the focus turns to rearranging your city to optimize how you get things done.

And one incredibly clever way to do this is by looking at production ratios. You might be thinking production what now? Well, that's why you're here. Production ratios refer to the amount of time it takes to produce certain goods in your production chain. Different buildings in the chain can take longer than others and that's where a little math comes into play.

Production chains are the backbone to creating resources in Anno 117: Pax Romana and in turn, building a beautiful city that functions well and has a thriving population.

When you construct production buildings, you often need to create more than one building to result in the output of the good. For a production ratio to work at its most efficient then, you'll sometimes be required to build more of one building than another in the chain to make sure each part can keep up with production speed.

Fortunately, the basic production chains you start out with will already run as efficiently as possible. When you build your Oat Farm and your Porridge Stand, it will work on a 1:1 ratio. Same with the Fishing Hut, Hemp Farm to Tunics, Woodcutter to Sawmill (for Timber), Cockle Picker and Eel Grabber.

To explain this a little further, your Woodcutter and Sawmill both take 30 seconds each on production, so they run at the same production ratio. If they don't run at the same time, you need to do a bit of extra building to improve efficiency.

It's worth noting that while perfect production ratios will produce 1:1 production to goods, you will want to consider the space, money and workforce you have before building your city to meet these ratios.

This is especially true when it comes to the production of the higher tier population who have more premium needs, or in Albion where space is harder to come by with an overwhelming amount of marshland. Focus instead on improving the production ratios of your more basic production chains before moving up.

Plus, the perfect production ratios (outlined below) don't take into the account the effects of specialists' buffs or research technologies, which will in turn change the input and output timings. So, always bear that in mind.
