90-year-old Yang Binglin, the oldest male streamer according to Guinness World Records, recently completed Resident Evil Requiem by scribbling copies of its maps and puzzle hints in his notebook – so, the traditional way.
Binglin, who some affectionately refer to as "Game Grandpa," streamed his entire Resident Evil Requiem playthrough on Chinese video sharing site BiliBili, where Google Translate reveals generous video titles assuring Grace that she shouldn't be afraid, because Grandpa's here, and also Binglin's intentions to replay Requiem.
R/immersivesim moderator Sinno shares an original translation on Twitter of Binglin's thoughts after first finishing Capcom's brutal horror game. (Sinno tells me the translation covers Binglin's quotes from between the timestamps 00:21-01:02 during this "thank you" video.) The streamer commends characters Leon and Grace for, despite their mismatched experiences, having "cooperated, and fought their way to the very end."
"It's not about being fearless," Binglin muses, "but about moving forward when afraid. Grace is that kind of person. No matter how many monsters and demons there are, you can fight them one by one until they're all defeated."
He concludes with good advice for everyone, even those of us who aren't currently stuck in a biohazardous Care Center surrounded by mutants dripping brown pus: "No matter how difficult things are, as long as someone is there for you, you can overcome them."
Binglin previously streamed himself playing games like Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, and Black Myth: Wukong, which Google-translated video title suggests Game Grandpa was thrilled to play, since it's a locally produced AAA game. His enthusiasm shows he has no intentions of giving up the PS5 controller anytime soon, even as he turns 91 on December 10.
