8 months after launch, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles gets New Game+ out of nowhere in a surprise update, so I guess I'm booting up the tactical RPG once more
The creator of the original game, Yasumi Matsuno, wants to "provide a more enjoyable gameplay experience"
Seemingly out of nowhere, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles has received a new update that brings New Game+ and more. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
The news was revealed by the OG game creator, Yasumi Matsuno, on Twitter, who simply says, "To provide a more enjoyable gameplay experience, we have released a new update."
So, what are you getting? The headline feature is New Game+, which allows you to start a fresh save with unit levels, item data, and "more" carried over from a completed playthrough.
Aside from that, there are other neat quality-of-life features, like the Zodiac Compatibility function, which lets you view a unit's zodiac sign and compatibility on its status screen. It's all in the same, I suppose.
Aside from that, you're looking at adjustments that make it easier to remove all of a unit's equipment or check an enemy's status mid-battle. One neat change is that the unlock conditions for classes you haven't got yet are more clearly laid out, which may mean less time putting the game down and heading to Google – or whatever search platform you prefer.
You can read the patch notes in full over on Steam. All in all, though, a neat offering that's tempting me back for another run. It isn't immediately clear if New Game+ will scale enemies to your level or allow you to one-shot them like the all-powerful kupo that you are. Either way, it looks like I'll be returning to one of the best Final Fantasy games once more.
Weekly digests, tales from the communities you love, and more

I joined GamesRadar+ in May 2022 following stints at PCGamesN and PocketGamer.Biz, with some freelance for Kotaku UK, RockPaperShotgun, and VG24/7 thrown in for good measure. When I'm not running the news team on the games side, you'll find me putting News Editor duties to one side to play the hottest JRPG of 20 years ago or pillaging the depths of Final Fantasy 14 for a swanky new cloak – the more colourful, the better.
