A Castlevania legend made non-canon by the Metroidvania series could be making her return in Belmont's Curse, even if it makes no sense in the timeline: "Trevor’s mom became his daughter, ain’t no way"
While others want Sonia Belmont back, timeline be damned: "I don’t care. just give me my GOAT"

Fans think that Castlevania: Belmont's Curse could be reviving a character who was struck from the series' canon.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse throws the series back to its 2D roots and is set to feature a descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades from Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse roaming about Paris 23-years after the events of that game. Some are speculating this to be Sonia Belmont – who starred in Castlevania Legends and the cancelled Castlevania Resurrection – thanks to a striking resemblance to the character.
Sonia was originally the first member of the Belmont clan and was theorized to be Trevor Belmont's mother. However, her existence was eventually made non-canon by series director Koji Igarashi due to clashes with Castlevania: Lament of Innocence – which established Leon Belmont as the first known Belmont. So this could be Konami's way of introducing Sonia (or at least, someone very similar) back into the canon.
"Is that Sonia?" reads one of the top responses to the trailer on the Castlevania subreddit, while another says, "I'm guessing it's basically a Sonia-inspired new Belmont character."
Meanwhile, others are questioning the weird familial shenanigans attached with making Sonia Trevor's daughter in the new canon: "Trevor’s mom became his daughter, ain’t no way." While another (jokingly) reckons it's connected to 1947 novelty song I'm My Own Grandpa, saying "The first line of 'I’m My Own Grandpa' is, 'many, many years ago when I was 23', Belmont’s Curse takes place 23 years after Dracula’s Curse. Surely this can’t be a coincidence."
Timeline shenanigans aside, others are just happy to potentially see this displaced character return, saying, "Getting her out of non-canon jail would be great," with another adding, "Yeah, at this point they could make her Julius' time-displaced robo-daughter, I don’t care. just give me my GOAT."
However, in the current canon, Trevor did have two daughters, with Ann Belmont marrying into the Morris Clan, which eventually would reach John Morris and Johnathan Morris – the protagonists of Castlevania: Bloodlines and Portrait of Ruin, respectively. Mary Belmont, meanwhile, married into the Helsing family, with Van Helsing being a descendant of hers.

Although, these familial ties were established in unreleased production material for Bloodlines (thanks Castlevania Wiki), so Konami is technically off the hook for acknowledging it since it never happened in-game. One Reddit user ponders, "I wonder if they’ll go by the unreleased Bloodlines family tree," with another responding, "Ann makes the most sense and fits right in the timeline without asking how this affects other titles." So even if it isn't technically Sonia, nothing is stopping Konami from making the character very similar to her non-canon grandma.
