Final Fantasy 15 is coming out in 2016, according to director Hajime Tabata. Well, ok, what he actually told GameSpot is that it definitely isn't coming out this year, but that it will also release before 2017. So, using the powers of deductive reasoning, we can determine with a high degree of confidence that Square Enix is being really weird about this.
Yesterday, Square Enix showed a 15-years-earlier prologue to the main narrative and some exploration ending (poorly) with a battle against a gassy Malboro. The company didn't narrow down a release date at the time, promising instead that it would have more to say at PAX Prime later this month.
"We really do get the feeling that people are a bit worried," Tabata said. "Certainly, one thing I would like to say to them to reassure them, is that we've set down the release date, we know when it is, and we've got a complete road map lined up, right up to launch, and we're proceeding along that as planned."
So Square Enix has a release date in mind, and even if the company can't tell us, Tabata feels confident saying it will be sometime after December 31, 2015 and before January 1, 2017. Got it.
