Many years ago, Lorenzo Veloria was a Senior Editor here at GamesRadar+ helping to shape content strategy. Since then, Lorenzo has shifted his attention to Future Plc's broader video game portfolio, working as a Senior Brand Marketing Manager to oversee the development of advertising pitches and marketing strategies for the department. He might not have all that much time to write about games anymore, but he's still focused on making sure the latest and greatest end up in front of your eyes one way or another.

How do you make the ultimate April fools joke? Well, one way is to create an absolutely ridiculous concept for a game, announce it on April 1st, make everyone believe it's a hoax, then actually make it a real thing. Ubisoft pulled a fast one with the 1980s action-movie inspired standalone FPS. No one thought the neon-soaked backdrop filled with pink lasers, cyborg heroes, and the most obscure action-movie references ever would be the setting for a real game, but here we are.

We played the first few minutes of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and we can tell you, it has nothing to do with malicious pirates and spoiled juiceheads. The game kicks off with every movie cliche imaginable: nuclear war, cybernetic implants, super-soldiers, bicep-flexing hand shakes, and the list goes on. Between the references from movies like Terminator, Predator, and Die Hard and the voice talents of Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese from Terminator) there's plenty of old-school nostalgia. But it's all best seen with your own eyes. Take a look at the first fifteen minutes of gameplay that was revealed on IGN. Let us know what you think of the game in the comments below.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be coming to XBLA and PSN on May 1.
