Resident Evil 4
OK, so RE4 did happen – but there's more to it than that. The very first version was so different from previous Resident Evils, Capcom decided to spin it off into an original title: Devil May Cry. When the next version was shown in 2002, it involved Leon doing battle with ghosts inside a mansion and on board an Umbrella Corporation airship. And somewhere between those two titles was yet another completely different version, never seen outside of Capcom.
Comeback chance?
The lost versions are locked away in Capcom's vaults, a shame considering the amount of work that obviously went into them. But at least we got DMC and the final, approved RE4.
