Crying With Laughter review

A hit and miss comedy-thriller about a stand- comedian helping a friend with a grudge

There aren’t too many laughs in this overwrought story of an Edinburgh stand-up whose past comes back to haunt him when an old school friend tries to involve him in a personal vendetta.

And what few there are come more from writer/ director Justin Molotnikov’s strained plotting than the brusque observations comedian Joey Frisk (Stephen Rushmore McCole) makes when he’s not snorting cocaine or having threesomes.

Early hopes that this will be a compelling, thriller-laced character study come to nought, while a quite literally torturous climax is simply distasteful.

A crying shame.
