Refn is the young Dane responsible for 1996's Pusher. This follow-up tells of Leo (Bodnia) and Louise (Andersson), a couple whose status quo is destroyed by Leo's averse reaction to the prospect of bringinga child into "this shitty world". Counter-balancing this, shy video store clerk Lenny (Mikkelsen) romances lonely waitress Lea (Corfixen), who lives through literature.
Breeder is a frank, intense film shot with effective Cinemascope, rich colours and inventiveness that makes Refn's direction akin to that of Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run).
Remarkably tense, and with powerful implications about movie violence seeping into domesticity, Bleeder is a film worth catching, and Refn a director to watch.
