Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIII-2 will fit onto one DVD, even on the Xbox 360. If you pride yourself on maintaining a bloated, immobile frame, you'll no doubt welcome the lack of arduous treks across the living room every 20 hours or so. However, those who prefer their Final Fantasies stuffed with cutscenes and side-quests may worry that the trim FFXIII-2 is skimping on the extras. Not to worry, says director Motomu Toriyama: the game's making your Xbox work smarter, not harder.
In an interview with Japan's Famitsu, Toriyama reveals that the lack of pre-rendered movies means Final Fantasy XIII-2 can pack as much game as ever into a smaller space; the game's realtime cinema cutscenes will also depict characters outfitted in the appropriate weapons and armor and facilitate everyone's favorite new gameplay mechanic of the past ten years, the reflex-testing QTE. Toriyama promises there'll be no penalty for failing these, though.
