If you were a hardcore Sega fan in the '90s, you likely played your share of oddball Japanese games like Space Channel 5 and Magic Knight Rayearth. If so, then you're somewat prepared for the oddity that is Hi-sCool: Seha Girls, a brand new anime series that's appearing online via Crunchyroll. I'm being absolutely serious when I say that it's a clever CG cartoon that recasts the Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, and Genesis/Mega Drive consoles as Japanese high school girls that have to play classic games to graduate. And if you're old enough to have owned those systems back in the day, the show is a real treat.
Seha Girls is one of many animes that Crunchyroll simulcasts from Japan, so new, subtitled episodes will premiere online over the coming weeks. Maybe the upcoming programs involve a 32X showing up uninvited for a party, or Mega Drive's little sister, Game Gear, trying to sneak into the school. Honestly, nothing would surprise me at this point in the absurd, enjoyable show.
