X-Men director to work with Bryan Fuller on the radical overhaul of the ’60s sitcom
Who will be the brains behind the new TV reboot of The Munsters ? Or should that be, who will be the Bryans?
Deadline reports that X-Men 1 and 2 director Bryan Singer (who is currently working on Jack The Giant Killer ) is finalising a deal to direct and executive produce Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller’s radical overhaul of the 1960s screwball supernatural comedy, which recently received a pilot order by NBC. This versions will be an hour long drama as opposed to a half-hour sitcom.
According to Deadline , “ The Munsters calls for striking visuals mixed with all the classic Munsters archetypes, and NBC had been looking for a top director. The pilot for Fuller’s Pushing Daisies was directed by a feature helmer, Barry Sonnenfeld, who earned an Emmy for his work. The first pilot Singer directed was House , and he continues to serve as an executive producer on the long-running Fox medical drama. Singer has since directed only one other pilot, ABC’s Football Wives , and he served as an executive producer on the ABC drama series Dirty Sexy Money .”
Previous reports have suggested that Fuller’s take is a long way from the original goofball comedy about a family of monsters (including vampires, a werewolf, Frankenstein’s monster and hideously beautiful young woman) trying to live in suburban bliss, seemingly unaware they’re freaking out the neighbours. It will apparently be an edgier and darker show that will explore the origins of how the residents of 1313 Mockingbird Lane. All the original main characters would remain (dad Herman, mum Lily, son Eddie, niece Marilyn, Grandpa and even Spot the dragon) but in wildly different incarnations.
