Boxing Day Sales: FAQ

When do the Boxing Day sales begin?

Typically, Boxing Day sales start on December 26, the day directly following Christmas. However, in recent years, retailers sometimes kick things off a little early, sometimes even on Christmas Eve. The majority of retailers will have their sales in full swing come December 26, and while the best offers are likely to be on Boxing Day itself, it’s likely some retailers will continue Boxing Day deals up until the new year, and possibly even merge it with the January sales.

Are Boxing Day sales better than Black Friday?

Black Friday is the biggest shopping event of the year, though you can sometimes find better deals in the Boxing Day sales, especially on older stock that retailers are looking to clear out for the new year. The main caveat is that Boxing Day is way too late if you’re looking to find a Christmas gift, so Black Friday is the better option in that case.

During Black Friday we saw a lot of PlayStation 5 Black Friday offers, as well as some Black Friday Switch deals – there’s no guarantee these offers will be matched during Boxing Day, but we won’t know for sure until the sales officially kick off.

When do the Boxing Day sales end?

Boxing Day sales can run right up until the start of the new year, though this depends on the retailer and stock availability. We recommend getting in early to avoid disappointment, as it’s likely the best deals will mostly be available on Boxing Day itself. Following directly after are the January sales, though it can be hard to find a clear distinction between the end of Boxing Day and the start of the January sales as it varies between each retailer.

Outside of work, she likes to relax and unwind on her Nintendo Switch, favouring games like The Legend Of Zelda series and Animal Crossing New Horizons. She still thinks New Leaf is the best Animal Crossing entry though, and will rattle on about that game and the Nintendo 3DS for hours when given the chance.
