Universal's rush to get a new Bourne movie ready has taken a new twist - writer Josh Zetumer has been hired to write a parallel draft of the script.
What does this mean for George Nolfi's take? Not much - yet. The Ultimatum writer has been cranking out his own first draft, but has to take time off to work on writing and directing The Adjustment Bureau with Matt Damon.
Since he's kicking off shooting in September, he can't devote time to Bourne, so Universal wants Zetumer to develop his own screenplay so that the film can be ready to shoot for a 2011 release.
It might end up that Zetumer - who has worked on Dune for Peter Berg - takes sole credit, or that parts of his script could be blended with Nolfi's when/if he comes back to the film after make Bureau.
It's not the first time this has happened - Wolverine's script was a hybrid, as was Fantastic Four: The Rise Of The Silver Surfer.
Those two titles don't exactly give us hope that it works out, though.
Whatever happens, Universal is clearly shoving Bourne along as fast as possible. Let's hope it works...
