If you spent your childhood swapping dog-eared copies of Welcome To Dead House, Say Cheese And Die and Night Of The Living Dummy then 2015 is the year your depraved little mind has been waiting for for a long time. Not only is RL Stine's terrifyingly prolific Goosebumps series getting a film starring Jack Black but a point and click prequel to boot.
Spotted as an upcoming title on the Xbox 360 marketplace, Goosebumps: The Game stars none other than evil ventriloquist dummy Slappy who probably haunted your dreams (or at least under your bed) for the majority of your formative years. "The walk home from school today is going to be a lot spookier than usual… Your sleepy neighbourhood’s been overrun by monsters! Werewolves prowl the woods, Gnomes roam underfoot, and scarecrows walk at midnight," threatens the description.
Reassuringly the game is being developed by WayForward who although developed the recent Adventure Time game with a title too long to mention here, also made the excellent Shantae series. "You’ll need to use your wits to investigate the surroundings, puzzle out clues, and outsmart the monsters before it’s too late," continues the enthusiastic store page. "Survive a trek through your neighbourhood, unravel the mysteries of the Dead House, and sneak through the mall after hours; only then can you confront Slappy and stop his plans for revenge!" It's currently listed as for Xbox 360 but I'd expect more platforms to be announced imminently for its October release.
You can see some images in the gallery above, complete with super creepy houses and darkened rooms. Am I hoping for a day at Horrorland? Yes. Have I got unrealistic expectations for a point and click movie tie in? Affirmative. But, is that... Monster Blood?
