Sexy ladies can't disguise embarrassing Kinect demo fail

Demonstration of Microsoft's controller-free technology goes a bit ass

As plans go, it probably sounded pretty watertight. Hire two gorgeous models. Put them on stage in front of the press. Get them to show off the controller-free awesomeness of Kinect. Retire to the nearest drinking establishment for beers and good times. What could possibly go wrong?

Oh dear.

I have no idea where this footage is taken from, but I'm not going to concern myself with such trivialities when something's as full as fail as this. The first clip shows Kinect Sports getting off to a slow start. Then stopping completely. Then starting again. It’s a mess.

Despite the disturbing lack of hand-clapping synchronicity, the Dance Central demo is actually going pretty well... until it nosedives with a wet farting sound straight into disaster town.

To be fair, the vivid picture of epic fail painted here probably isn't entirely down to Kinect. All the flashy lights could easily have been upsetting the technology, for example. And the models are performing an incompetent interpretation of running that Kinect might not be able to compute. We should consider these things.

Unfortunately for Microsoft, less understanding viewers will ignore the complexities of demonstrating a high-tech piece of kit in such a challenging environment and arrive at the conclusion that Kinect looks like it's going to be a bit rubbish.

If Kinect is going to screw up this bad on a stage that Microsoft prepared, then how is it going to work in places they didn't?

And that's why Natal isn't going to work....

SO, HORRIBLE.
i would imagine it was the camera flashes, but it's all crap and i enjoy seeing it fall flat on its ass.

From what i have heard Kinect will have a projected 500,000 pre orders at release in the UK though

Does this mean disappointment?

To be fair for the first clip, the screen kept telling them to move over and they didn't do it. Why the Kinect needs you to stand on top of each other to play with 2 people I don't know but it seems more of the girls fault than the hardware. As for Dance Central, I'm guessing that the Kinect hated the game so much that it just tried killing itself.

So disappointed at Microsoft for this shameless grab at the casual market.

The girl with the yellow top and green shorts has ZERO rhythm. She's clapping way, WAY off beat, and that has nothing to do with the game. She even looks to her friend to try and see when she should clap. I'm sure that didn't help either, but I blaim Microsoft for just trying to hire 'eye candy' instead of 'something that could display their product.'

Wow. That failed so hard it hurt to watch. MS has actually managed to do Wii worse than the Wii does. At least they spared no expense on the quality of said sexy ladies. The woman in the green has it going ON.

Also, mad props to the dude who managed to sneak an ass grab in the first video at :39.

Does two girls jiggling in a state of near nakedness count as cynical advertising or am i getting old?

the noise of the hurdle countdown sounds an awful lot like the Super Mario fire flower sound effect.
hmmmm, suspicious.

Yet again, proof of Kinect's utter flop: its existence.

i didn't think it'd be THAT fail-ish... and as ps3 fantard... i lul'd HARD.

They should have just hired Chris for the Dance Central demo, he seemed to enjoy it more.

That reminds me of what happened with Miyamoto and his demo of Skyward Sword.
Even if they are prone to their own mistakes, you'd think that Microsoft would have learned from Nintendo's failure and cordon off the demo area or shut the whole thing up in a booth or tell the audience to refrain from flash photography, using computers or cell phones near the device as if it were a plane taking off of the run-way.

I've decided that kinect might be my kinda thing. It just kept wanting the 2 sexy ladies to get closer and closer to each other! But besides encouraging lipstick lesbianism kinect is a big pile of fail.
bengimon85  - 1 month 6 days ago
the flashing lights didnt help, the kinect kept losing the connection which is what fucked up the whole thing, once you get 1 in your living room should be fine, unless you have flashing on all the time, but then you'd just be a bit weird rofl
