One such game to barely register on my radar has been Bayonetta, which is ridiculous, as these types of senseless action games are right up my alley."

360 - Bayonetta - Ripten Bayonetta Preview - Includes Sketches From Memory & In-Game Art Ripten's Chad Lakkis writes:

"A witchy librarian with big guns - why'd it take so long for someone to think this up?

I took a little heat in our day four E3 podcast when I began to describe SEGA's new third person action game, Bayonetta -- so I decided to whip up some very quick sketches from memory to help those reading better visualize what I saw first hand in SEGA's Platinum Games showcase room.

Bayonetta is currently being developed by Hideki Kamiya, the former director of DMC1, which makes perfect sense since everything about this game seemed to kick ass. From the moment the demo started, the room was captivated.

You play as Bayonetta, a very lean and mean witch decked out in what appears to be a skin tight leather suit. If that's not enough to demand your attention, she is also equipped with guns in nearly every place imaginable. Bang bang!"

360 - Bayonetta - Gamespot: E3 08 Bayonetta Impressions Gamespot: "Bayonetta is an upcoming action game for the PS3 and 360 which features a witch protagonist taking on strange versions of angels in a modern day setting. Our first look at a preview build of the game today showed that it has many similarities in style and substance to the Devil May Cry series, which is probably no surprise considering the director of Bayonetta is Hideki Kamiya, the brains behind the very first DMC game.

Think DMC with a female instead of Dante or Nero and you're a long way towards understanding Bayonetta. The game's main character is the witch Bayonetta, a quite attractive sort who dresses in tight leather and has long black hair. She also packs some serious firepower, having twin pistols as well as guns built into her shoes. The level demoed to GameSpot at E3 08 began with the title character running through what looked like a gothic building before heading outside into a large courtyard area with a big central fountain. A quick cut scene then jumped in, showing several goblin-like creatures--but with angel wings and adorned with halos--swooping onto the courtyard."

360 - Bayonetta - Devil May Cry Creator Doesn't See 3D Action Game Evolution - Kotaku Kotaku reports:

3D action games haven't evolved? Hideki Kamiya, the brains behind defining 3D action game Devil May Cry doesn't really seem to think so! Over on the official Bayonetta site, Kamiya blogs:

"How have 3D action games evolved since we blazed a new trail with DMC? Can you even go so far as to say they've evolved?

Seven years ago, we put everything we had into Devil May Cry. But since then, like the hands of time for the 3D action genre were frozen at that moment, it seems like the drive to push users further has stopped. There is so much more that should be done now. And we are the only ones who seem up to the task. This is the spark that has lit the fire within me."

Ah, don't you love it when game creators have fires in their bellies? Way more uplifting than when they're burnt out and crazy. Also in his post, Kamiya says to believe him and Platinum Games that the upcoming Bayonetta "will be worth the wait". Alrighty, then.
