While movies featuring female superheroes have had a tough time at the box office and in development, that harsh reality isn’t stopping studios from trying to make them work.
Witchblade – which chronicles the adventures of Sara Pezzini, a New York cop who becomes the chosen wearer of the titular gauntlet, a mystical creation that gives its user supernatural powers – has long been a comic book, and has already come to the small screen via a short-lived TV drama.
Undeterred, Platinum Studios, Arclight Films and Top Cow Productions are now teaming to bring it to cinemas. There’s no word on a director, writer or star, but the team hopes to start work on the film in September. Variety has the story .
