WiiConnect24, the online service for Nintendo's new console, could make use of micro-transactions for extra content in much the same way as Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Game Informer, "if you've gotten to a particular part in a game we could push content out to you so you get to battle a new boss. Maybe you get a new artifact; maybe you get a new weapon..."
Just how this new content would be "pushed" out to gamers is unclear but small online payments for gaming content is a distinct possibility as it's hugely popular with third party publishers. "If our licensee partners want to go in that direction, it's certainly possible in our system," Fils-Aime confirmed.
