WayForward announces imminent release for Shantae iOS

WayForward has announced that the iOS version of its popular DSiWare title, Shantae: Risky's Revenge, will be available this week. In fact, it'll be ready for you to purchase and download and start playing in less than 24 short hours, if you so choose. Care for a trailer? Come on, it's right here already.

Having toiled in the licensee fields cranking out highly competent adaptations of others' IP, Shantae was WayForward's first original property. The Game Boy Color title garnered a cult following despite suffering from its host platform's increasing obsolescence (the game sat alongside Mario and Metal Gear on our list of top GBC titles). When the sequel, Shantae: Risky's Revenge, emerged for DSi, we only called it “the perfect platformer.” Now that WayForward has finished work on well-received licenses like Aliens: Infestation and Bloodrayne: Betrayal, it's finally had time to line up the iOS version of Risky's Revenge, which will be available tomorrow, Oct 27. Will you be giving it a go?

Forget iOS devices, just give a proper PC release, on Steam perhaps. Make it official, so just about anyone who wants to play this game, can do so legally.

I really wish the original Shantae would be released on the 3DS VC. Also, I would probably pay a buck just to have an app where Shantae was doing her belly dancing and nothing else.

GAAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! wayforward stop taunting the Australians that will never get the chance to play this game. I get it, I get it you guys made a super awesome platformer and just port it to phone for sh!ts and giggles but won't release it over Australian DSi store.

I have a solution for you, and it (as Gamesradar so quaintly put it) rhymes with "bremulators".

I would but I thought that DSiware games were linked to a system and therefore emulator/roms won't work. If I'm wrong please correct me but I haven't been able to find any way of playing this game.

Wow, way to ruin a good game with phone controls guys, no offence but a great platformer on the DS like shantae doesnt deserve to be so low, if you think it will raise popularity, think again, it will be forgotten in 3-4 days.

I love this game so much. But I think it's better on the DS because of the controls and all. Still, guess if you don't have one, this is the only access you'll get.

I love it when developers make an Awful Control edition of a great game.
