The Walking Dead – See first footage of gameplay in new video

Since it was first announced we'd been waiting to finally see The Walking Dead game in action. Based on the popular comic book and TV series of the same name, adventure game developer Telltale has been working hard on the episodic adventure and released the first video that shows actual gameplay. Check it out:

This follows last week's haunting Walking Dead teaser trailer and goes for more bloodshed than implied horror, though it definitely seems to fit the spirit of the comic series. Comic fans will also probably be comforted to see the series creator and writer Robert Kirkman introduce it, as his bearded visage lets us know everything is going to be okay (at least until the zombies get here). Here's how Telltale describes the game:

"An untold story following convicted criminal Lee Everett; a man given a second chance at life in a world gone to hell. With danger around every corner, protecting an orphaned girl named Clementine may offer him redemption in a world of true horror. Experience events, meet people and visit locations foreshadowing the story of Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes in this extension of Robert Kirkman's award-winning universe. This is a 5 part game of Adventure Horror, where the decisions that you make will have profound and lasting consequences."

The first of five episodes hits XBLA, PSN, PC and Mac in late April with each episode costing $4.99 (aka 400 MS points).

Loving the cel-shaded art style. Once again the trailer doesn't give a whole lot away in terms of gameplay but it looks like there could be a few zombie sieges to survive through. The sieges in Resi 4 were my favourite parts so I'm hoping that last little bit of gameplay footage isn't just smoke and mirrors.

I like the art style of the game. It's almost as if the graphic novel has come to life. Not too gritty, but just enough to be genuinely unnerving.

Well, hopefully not two episodes of just talking and pondering in one location followed by 10 minutes of action, like the TV series. :)

That trailer is more of a slideshow, with about four to six seconds of actual in game content. However I will most likely buy the first episode. I'm a fan of Telltale and I'm interested to see how they handle something more mature and with a darker tone.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. But what about that video shows gameplay? I don't see anything but computer controlled sequences.

Looks just like Sam & Max: Beyond the Alley of the Dolls.

Seeing as it is made by TellTale, I wonder how this is going to work as an Adventure game.

The models looked a bit off, but the animations for them looked okay. Looking good so far I guess, but something seems weird...

    This game looks amazing! and...first!
