I'm not even an old-school fan (completed 3D but only got halfway through Land of the Babes) but this game was awesome. Gamers seem spoilt by graphical advancements today, and reject every game that has framerate or texture loading problems. DNF looked terrible by today's standards but the gameplay is top-notch. I didn't agree with Mikel saying the jokes are dated either, I laughed at pretty much all of them and being a huge action film fan, the Arnie quotes were massively appreciated. The ONLY thing that bugged me was the HHNNGG he does every time you jump. TL;DR I don't agree with the reviews, give me fun over gorgeous, and video game critics are slowly descending into the cavern of hate I usually reserve for movie critic-snobs.

I won't take a side i'm only a couple hours in and i'm happy with duke. its a blast from the past. there are worse games out there that deserve far worse than the venom thats fallen to Duke. Bad reviews are just that opinions and other opinions are always available 7/10 is fair. but mistakes were made.

And another thing. It's not like there are Duke Nukem "Haters" out there. Nobody wanted to see this thing fail. I doubt anyone walked into the review process with a preconceived bias like they might with a CoD or Halo game. If somebody thought it sucked, it's because it sucks. Also, is there a cooler name than Jon St. John?

I stand by my original statement that this game should have never been released. It was the longest-running (and one of the best) jokes in gaming. It's just sad to see what it came down to. If I were a Duke Nukem fan, I think I would prefer to have spent the rest of my life wondering about the potential of what could have been, instead of knowing the harsh reality of just how bad this game is. I can only imagine what it's like for the people who had this pre-ordered for over a decade. It's probably like being given a chance to go back in time and tell the one that got away how you really feel about her after wondering what might have been your whole life, only for her to tell you she doesn't like you that way. Now your dreams are ruined and you are left worse off than before.

@snipes101 I totally agree, there are 4 developers credited on the game, 3D Realms, Triptych, Paranha and Gearbox so it's no surprise the game is a bit of a mess. I'm hoping that Gearbox can take the IP and make a really good Duke Nukem game in the years to come. I'm still hoping for a patch on 360 that fixes the load times but I'm doubting it will happen.

Haven't played it but I have seen some of the reviews and they're downright mean. It's a throwback and one that was plopped into GB's lap just to get the damn thing out. My prediction: they make a newer, better DN in the future now that the licence belongs to them (I think). They did what they could to clean Forever up, released it and got people talking about Duke again.

I'd side with Jon. If I was going to give it a score I'd give it a solid 7 for Xbox 360 and probably 8 for PC. The load times, limit to 2 weapons and no coop hurt. The PC version doesn't have the load time issues. I'm almost finished with the game on 360 myself but so far I'm leaning towards a solid 7. It's not the best game of the year by a long shot but I'm still enjoying it and having fun with it.
