*Goes into flashback to last year* *Valve says there will be no Portal 2* *Valve releases Portal 2* Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
  • Milo - January 1, 2012 2:21 p.m.

Well in my view if valve hadn't of made l4d their own and then spat out a lame, stupid, 'worse' second game, that had a few good points but just felt like a poor effort (the fogging) we know it will be amazing but surely leaving any game with a cliffhanger like they did in ep2 is just taking the piss...
  • talleyXIV - December 31, 2011 7:24 p.m.

Because they denied it, we now know it is true.

A better quote would of been I was looking forward to half life 3, untill i took a cross bow bolt/hunter flechette to the knee...

Pictured an angry gaming horde soon as I read the title of the article. Seriously, they are gonna make bank if they ever release it and it so much as looks good in the teasers
  • A9entOfChaos - December 30, 2011 6:38 a.m.

One word why Valve has not released or even talked about HL3: STEAM! Period. They are making piles of money with that service they provide and don't really care about getting a quality game out any time soon. I love Valve, but it's getting to a point where i just dont care any more for it. I mean, c'mon! There is only so much time people are going to wait before they say f*** it!
  • GhostNappa2k10 - December 30, 2011 6:58 a.m.

They don't care about getting a quality game out the door anytime soon? I'm sorry, this year, they released Portal 2. Two years ago, L4D2. Three years ago, L4D. Four years ago, TF2, Portal, HL2: Episode 2. Next year, they releasee CS: GO and DotA 2. You try and tell me they don't care about releasing a quality game anytime soon. If any of those games AREN'T quality, then you need your head examined.
  • Jedipimp0712 - December 30, 2011 7:23 a.m.

i could not have said it any better Ghost. When Half Life 3 comes out, it will be something of quality. Valve may be waiting for the release of the next Source engine to do so. If you check out the "job listings" on their website, there are a lot of postings for programming.
  • GhostNappa2k10 - December 30, 2011 7:49 a.m.

I genuinely wouldn't mind if they waited until the next iteration of the Source engine, as it'll only make the game even better. Sure, Valve ARE taking their sweet ass time, but if you look at all their previous games, it's clearly going to be worth the wait.
  • Jedipimp0712 - December 30, 2011 7:53 a.m.

yes, when your games average a metacritic score of 90 or better, i think they know what they are doing. lol. If they could use some of the techniques that the Frostbite 2 engine uses, i think we could have the most gorgeous, lush environments ever created.
  • GhostNappa2k10 - December 30, 2011 7:56 a.m.

They definitely know what they're doing! xD I wouldn't mind if Valve games didn't look amazing (which they do), as their gameplay and (when applicable) storylines are always first-class, and better than pretty much everything on the market currently.
  • cokelogic - December 30, 2011 8:26 a.m.

    Not this.
  • AllOuttaPulse - December 30, 2011 11:47 a.m.

I'm pretty sure Valve was making bucketloads of money from Steam before April 2011, too, but they still made Portal 2. This argument is ridiculous. By your logic companies would produce one successful product/service and stop. I think we both know that doesn't happen. Besides, Half-life 3 would sell millions, guaranteed, so it'd be stupid of them not to make it.
  • AuthorityFigure - December 30, 2011 1:36 a.m.

Building anticipation only works for so long - games like RAGE from id show that no matter how juicy the details, how exact the press coverage, if the game is only 'good' (not amazing) then it is the company that suffers.
  • zmanmull - December 30, 2011 midnight

    Valve...why you no release HL3?
