Konami has released some new screenshots for Beyond the Labyrinth, its upcoming dungeon-crawler RPG. Konami will be publishing the title, with development handled by tri-Ace, the 15-year-old Tokyo studio best known in the west for its Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series. While many have dubbed Beyond the Labyrinth “Ico for 3DS,”owing to the title's ethereal look and superficially Yorda-esque protagonist, we can’t really say that it looks like a clone of Sony’s classic.

Beyond the Labyrinth will be released in Japan before the end of the year, though no English release has been announced as yet. Here's the trailer – also in Japanese and also pretty damn lovely-looking.

It's got a cool look, and the music ain't half bad either.

Um, when you mention the phrase 'Dungeon-crawler RPG', Ico doesn't really come to mind. I can sort of see where people are coming from, but beyond the style... no.

In my opinion, this is by far the best looking 3DS game. Not just graphically, but just as an overall game. It has such a rich style and tone, and it's from the creators of the Radiata Stories and the Star Ocean games. I may not be fond of the 3DS, but if there's one game that has the potential to get me to pick one up, it's this game. Incidentally, why the hell was this not part of the 3DS conference?

That is a good question, that would have been a big highlight!
