Star Wars fans have been 'forgiving' of games, The Force Unleashed II will be 'better,' says LucasArts

What is it with game developers being all apologetic lately? First Molyneux bashes Fable II, now LucasArts is apologizing for the not-so-good Star Wars games of the past.

"Star Wars fans have been forgiving over the years," said Executive Producer Haden Blackman in an interview with MCV, continuing, "But we don't take that for granted. We are so paranoid about tarnishing Star Wars. We want to make every game as good as possible, but it doesn't always work out that way."

I'd never call Star Wars fans or gamers anything close to "forgiving" - if they don't like something, they make it known with the most purified vitriol available - but the sentiment is appreciated. And yes, we'll still buy new Star Wars games despite some failures. Okay, a lot of failures.

Blackman also stated that LucasArts sees The Force Unleashed as a "big Star Wars event," and that The Force Unleashed II is a "better game." Based on what we've seen, the sequel does appear to fix some of the bothersome issues of its disappointing, but full-of-potential predecessor.

I don't see why everyone hated the first Force Unleashed. Granted it wasn't the unbelievably fucking amazing game I was hoping for but that doesn't mean it sucked. It was good, not great. Same with everyone suddenly hating on Fable 2. That game sold and scored tons. I wasn't interested but bought it later because everyone was talking about it being good and I'm glad I did. Molyneaux bashing it barely means anything anymore because he exaggerates everything (something he's been criticised for constantly, even on T-Dar)and I'm pretty sure he's at least a little nuts. @CH3BURASHKA I agree with Defguru777, you fished for a negative message there. @JADENkOTOR What's wrong with linear? Why is that a curse word nowadays? Not everything has to be an open world and not everything should be.

But it looks exactly the same just with another lightsaber...

I wasn't the least bit disappointed in Force Unleashed, and while I understood the complaints, I didn't see them as a problem at all. I thought it was would of the best Star Wars games I'd played in recent member. It really sort of rocked.

If i ignore the storyline, then the first one was actually enjoyable for me, but thats also partly because i love anything with the name star wars on it. But i still refuse to accept the game as actual cannon storyline @oufour I see what you did there with "gives me new hope"

If they don't put in anything as fucking stupid as that "take-down-the-star-destroyer-while-being-assaulted-by-bastard-TIE-fighters" and if they don't put in that stupid mechanic of having to stand perfectly still while you deflect blaster bolts and if they give it a better story, ending, characters, and all of the above, then I'll consider it

If they mean it, then it's nice to see game developers being humble. To me, the story of the first Force Unleashed was the best part about the game. As long as that continues in the next one, I'm sure I'll like it. @CH3BURASHKA No offense, but I think you're taking it just a bit too negatively.

They're apologetic lately because forums have made word-of-mouth a more viable sales booster/killer.

wow, i actually agree on this one. TFU1 got 7's an 8s when it was a 5 game, and he fact that george lucas thinks it was over hyped and says the new one will be better gives me new hope.

Hope this isn't as linear as the first even though i still enjoyed it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I read that as "You are all suckers for buying shitty games, and everyone knows it, including us". Saying your fans are "forgiving" is the biggest slap in the face I've heard in a while. Molyneux is a much better case; at least he doesn't call his fans suckers.

I still enjoyed the hell out of TFU. If TFU2 is going to be better, I will need to play it on the toilet.

Hopefully TFU2 will be what I wanted the first game to be, fucking badass.
