Despite an apparent tug of war between the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and broadcaster NBC, the two organisations have come to an agreement over whether Ricky Gervais should return to host the 2012 Golden Globes. And the verdict is a resounding yes!
The HFPA announced the decision on their Twitter feed, meaning that we can all look forward to another bout of near-the-knuckle jibes at the expense of Hollywood’s great and good.
Or will Ricky be toning it down a little this year? Not if you believe his Twitter feed, where he posted a video of last year’s ceremony, alongside the comment, “this x 10”. Oh dear. Tim Allen will be furious…
“Ricky is delighted to be coming back,” said NBC’s senior vice president of special events and late night programming, Doug Vaughan. “He said the Golden Globes show is the most fun he’s ever had.”
Gervais put it slightly differently. “Just told Billy Crystal he’d better not use any of my Holocaust or paedophile material at the Oscars,” he tweeted. “He agreed. (True)” Oh Lord. Expect some egos to take a serious pounding when the Golden Globes ceremony is held on 15 January 2012.
