Portal 2 turret plushie is all heart, zero bullets

Portal 2's turrets are so gosh darn charming, it's easy to forget that their main function is to straight up murder your ass with cold, remorseless efficiency. Sadly, it's this one small detail that makes them all but impossible to market in the real world, but one Canadian tinkerer has created the next best thing in an death-free, interactive turret plushie.

Named Trudi, the prototype toy was created by an amateur engineer named Jonathan M. Guberman with design and sewing assistance from Toronto artist Leigh Nunan. As demonstrated on Guberman's blog, Trudi is equipped with motion, lift and tilt sensors, giving it - sorry, 'her' - the ability to react to movements and the presence of others with authentic Portal quotes.

Want one? Tough. Though Guberman is forthcoming with the do-it-yourself assembly instructions, he has no current plans to market Trudi, writing, “As much as we’d love to make you one or sell you a kit, the last time I suggested doing something like that I was very quickly dissuaded. So, if anyone from Valve sees this and wants to talk about giving us permission, or at least turning a blind eye, please get in touch!”

In what will surely end in tragedy and/or blinding awesomeness, Guberman said a fellow engineer with the experimental design group Site 3 is working on a fully functional, life-sized Portal turret replica complete with moving parts, real sounds and the ability to fire projectiles. Harmless projectiles, of course. For now.

That's adorable! I want one, and someday, when I have a child, it will protect them at night! 8D

Stop bringing up stuff people love, GamesRadar!! You're ruining the Week of Hate with your lovable things and being reasonable about issues!

I'd put a life-size one in my bathroom to freak out house guests... *taking a crap* "there you are..." @fitter89 cannot. unsee. o__o

Great. I finally have Portal 2, but now my life is incomplete AGAIN.

I know that's a guys hand in the picture, but it looks like half a limb with a thumb attached on the end......
  • Kage_No_Shi - April 27, 2011 6:29 p.m.

I'd like a replica. It can be scale model for all I care, so long as it can sense people nearby, have glowing sensor eye, and can use relevant Portal/Portal 2 quotes (quality voice box, I don't want a garbled mess thanks).
  • Nap1400 - April 27, 2011 6:29 p.m.

That would be awesome if they could actually make and market those turrets. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
  • Vitreosity - April 27, 2011 6:21 p.m.

If they actually come out with a REAL Aperture Science Turret, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Valve get on this and I will gladly give you mah money!
  • AngryScotsman - April 27, 2011 5:06 p.m.

Does it cuddle the whole bullet?
