Portal 2 pushed to the week of April 18, 2011 in 'the shortest delay in Valve's proud tradition of delays'

Valve announced today that Portal 2 will be released the week of April 18, 2011, two months after originally expected (er, most recently expected). In typical Valve fashion, the press release mocked the developer's history of unmet release dates, calling this "the shortest delay in Valve's proud tradition of delays."

Update: Valve has told Shacknews that the exact dates are April 20 in North America, and April 22 in Europe.

According to Valve, the delay also "represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time," which "spells doom for humanity" but won't affect Portal 2's new release date. That's cool, as long as we get to play the game before the doom hits us.

Check out our latest preview, a look at the game's co-op mode, to better understand just how long those extra two months of waiting are going to feel.

You guys have got it all wrong. Valve isn't incompetant or unreliable, its Gabe. He is the most successful troll of all time, and you never even suspected him!

Only Valve can make me smile while reading that they're delaying one of my most anticipated games for 2011 by two months. I must say that I have come to respect valve time.

As soon as Valve Time and Real Time converge, the universe will explode. And yea, can't wait for Portal 2 :)

@twinkletitsMcGee Funny. I called quite a few people "sad excuses for gamers" merely because they didn't even know what Portal was!

Normally, i would be frustrated by this, but now this gives me some extra time to buy a new PC. As long as they don't release a gazzilion videos and screenshots to spoil the game, everything is fine.

Aw, I can't stay mad at Valve with their self-deprecation.

Quick correction, it was pushed to "the week" of April 18th. Presumably it will be out that Tuesday, on the 19th, but Valve did not state that in the press release.

@twinkletitsMcGee I assume you mean, "haven't played Portal," one of the bestest games ever which you should go play right now. Get right outta town with that not playing Portal!
