For Pokemon fans, of which there are many, the announcement of any new Pokemon game is reason to celebrate, but today's reveal is more exciting than most. Pokemon Conquest has just been announced for US release on June 18 for Nintendo DS. Why are we so overjoyed at this fact? Because we felt fairly certain this game would never be released outside of Japan.

Late last year there were rumors of a new Pokemon game to be announced in Japan, a game that ended up being Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition. It wasn't the sequel to Black/White we were hoping for, but the strategy game crossover that brought together pocket monsters with Koei's unique take on Japanese history sounded incredible (and incredibly niche). We were sure that such a specialized game coming out on the virtually dead DS had little chance of ever being launched outside of Japan. Thankfully we were very, very wrong.

The title has only been out a couple weeks in Japan, now Nintendo and Pokemon Company have announced it's coming to the US in a matter of weeks with a little name change. Could this be a sign Nintendo is relaxing its standards on what games are "too Japanese" for international audiences?

Wow they're translating this game fast. I would've expect this to be announced for the states somewhere around June or July. Seems like a buy for me.

'HYPE' is a word that can't even describe what I am feeling at this very moment from hearing this news O____O

@Kenmoor Nobunaga's Ambition- tl;dr, a strategy game based around the historical unification of Japan by Oda Nobunaga.

@Linktoreality.Sorry for the late response. So Nobunaga is basically a game that centers around the historical "conquest and unification of Japan" which is brought about by the warlord Mr.Nobunga. The connection you've brought to me is that Pokemon wants to teach the history of Japan's founding by combining themselves with the Nobunga series to make this game. What I meant by "connection" is that how did the two series meet up with each other. It's not like the creators met each other on the random streets of Japan and said "Oh, I know you! You're the creator of that game with the Pokemans and that warlord dude. We should really work with each other because war and Pokemon really mix." So yeah and thanks for the info. Though for some odd reason when I used your link it said "ERRORBULLSHIT Bad Title".

Looks cool and all but I never heard of "Nobunaga" or whatever Pokemon is combining with (well, with this game anyways). Where did this partnership even come from to begin with? Yes, I know both are Japanese and whatnot and I'm not familiar with the gaming community over there but what's the connection between the two?

Sweet, I was hoping against hope this would make it's way stateside. I hope it's true that maybe, finally, Nintendo is starting to realize we actually do want niche titles over here. Either that or they figure they can just sell anything that says Pokemon on it...whichever it is, I'm still happy.

It looks kind of like disgaea. This looks like a cool game

Great this game's a nice twist but im still confused as to why Gamefreak just wont make this and Black and White 2 3DS games. Understandable if they want to keep the DS still good but Pokedex 3D is just irritating me just being there, never touched now that daily distribute ended.

That's simple really. They don't want to make the impression that they are moving forward with a 6th Generation yet. The sequels to black and white will still be Gen 5 games and if they decided to make them 3DS exclusive that might send the wrong message.
  • shawksta - April 4, 2012 4:01 p.m.

Yeah okay, Black and White 2 makes perfect sense, but Pokemon Conquest is still questionable.
  • J-Fid - April 4, 2012 3:20 p.m.

For B2/W2, simply put, it's to ensure full compatibly between all of the 5th Gen. games.

YES! Pinky: Say Brain what are we going to do tonight? Brain: The same thing we do every night. TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!... BUT WITH POKEMON! Pinky: :| IMPOSSIBRU!
