November 13 PS4 release on European retailers 'speculation,' Sony says

Two European retailers are advertising a November 13 release date for PlayStation 4. NeoGAF users (via CVG) saw in-store advertisements with the date at Media Markt, a Dutch consumer electronics retailer, and on online retailer bol.com's listing for Sony's next-gen system.

Sony told us the dates are "pure speculation," but it does seem odd that Media Markt would go through the trouble of printing up ads with nothing to go by. As always, take the information with some healthy skepticism.

The mid-month European date would likely put the U.S. launch at late October to early November, meaning PS4 would arrive alongside a glut of cross-gen heavyhitters. Getting on the shelves in time to capture consumer excitement for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4Call of Duty: Ghosts, and plenty of other titlescertainly couldn't hurt.

Sounds awesome, but it would severely hinder the last big name PS3 games. If people rush out to buy a PS4, then Beyond 2 souls or GTA V might suffer.

The Xbone is also releasing mid-November so I wouldn't be surprised is Sony try to beat them to the pinch. As for affecting PS3 sales, millions of gamers aren't going to rush out a PS4 or Xbone at launch so current gen sales will be fine. GTA V will fly off the shelf regardless of when the new consoles are out

When making minimum wage, you will find that one often has to choose between one or the other.

I have a feeling then that both the Xbox One and PS4 will launch within a week or so of each other, which should make things decidedly interesting. Although that should be pretty obvious anyway seeings as they're both targeting a release at the end of the year and would want to get in before the mad December sales rush. I sure hope nobody takes this petty console war to the shop floor. :I
