The Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer blew Tom Holland's mind right along with the rest of us

We weren’t the only ones who got super excited when the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer dropped a couple of months ago: star Tom Holland was freaking out about it, too. HeyUGuys recently caught up with him on the red carpet of his new movie Lost City of Z and asked him about his first reaction to the trailer.

“Dude, I lost my mind,” Holland said with a huge grin. “Because it’s so strange to see Spider-Man and myself on the same screen. Like, that still hasn’t sunk in yet.” It’s refreshing to hear that Holland, who had an important supporting role in Captain America: Civil War, still has that childlike wonder at seeing himself suited up as the iconic web-slinger. That wide-eyed quality is exactly what makes him such a great pick for this role. That innocence and joy translates extremely well in his performance as Peter Parker; watching Holland’s Peter be amazed at being in the presence of Tony Stark and the Avengers is a terrific way for the audience to relate to him and feel like we’re along for the ride right alongside him.

Holland was also glad the trailer was so well-received by the fan community. “To see the trailer come out and get such a positive reaction was exactly what we needed, and we’re really proud and excited to show the fans. I’m more excited than the fans, I’m telling you,” he gushed. “I’m so excited to see it.”

Directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, and Donald Glover, Spider-Man: Homecoming arrives in theaters on July 7, 2017.
