New GoldenEye 007 multiplayer trailer is all old school and stuff

A new trailer for the Wiimake of the classic N64 shooter, GoldenEye 007, shows off the game's myriad multiplayer modes and options. The trailer focuses on four-player split-screen games (Wii online? Psh...), and emphasizes the return of classic characters, weapons, modes, and maps, which are all good things...

GoldenEye was a pioneering console shooter, and some of the most fun you could have with three friends and an N64. The modern version is clearly meant to recapture that experience, but is it too late? Do we still care to gather around a TV and shoot each other from within little boxes? Think it over while you watch the trailer:

Is this something we want to relive? We don't know yet, but we did get a little giddy seeing Facility again.

The "Golden Gun Mode" better be called Man With The Golden Gun as it was in Golden Eye.

Go go split screen! Never had much love for online multiplayer, but it's good for those who live in their caves alone.

good thing im 1 of the lucky ones who didnt sell their wii. but cant wait for this game its a great that they try to keep it old school for true gamers

Liiiive and let diiiie! Goldeneye is BACK! It's going full circle now...Sonic 4, NBA Jam, Goldeneye...damn it's like reliving childhood. Deja vu...

Hey look it's Nintendo rehashing some shit they have already done before. Half life had a mod for this as well. The Wii is for babies. A few people will form some half assed community to play this and that is the extent of it. It will sell fairly well but in the end it is on the Wii so honestly who gives a fuck.

I can't wait. Goldeneye was my first ever FPS. I remember going over to a friends house and playing 4 player with him, his older bro and his bro's friend. I got slaughtered but it was so much fun. Here's to hoping the experience gets recreated.

Well, not to nitpick, but the origins of FPS multiplayer aren't with Goldeneye, but either way, I'm excited. As long as they don't redo those horrid controls like the makers of GE Source did.
  • Shagnasty - August 23, 2010 10:25 p.m.

I don't give a shit what anybody says, I love FPS controls on the Wii.

Who needs Wiispeak when you have the Xbox or GSC to talk on while the Wii. Fun times fun times. Lol, you stopped playing Halo because you could no longer screen look? And cant handle playing against little boys who are barely good at the game anyway.

I wanna see a return of nightfire onto the 360. Loved that game and spent a stupid amount of time on split screen multiplayer with my mates :D
  • therawski - August 23, 2010 10:11 p.m.

I agree with Spacegrass and SwampRock (sounds like an amazing duo), split screen is essential for a full experience, plus not everyone else is drunk online so they get mad at you when you leave suddenly. But the best part was you could see the other players' screens, in fact that's why I stopped playing Halo haha
  • SwampRock - August 23, 2010 9:36 p.m.

Splitscreens always better because when your friends talk trash you can beat them up in real life. Instead of listening to kids who's balls havent dropped say gratuitous amounts of swear words, who you can't beat up.

Yes we still need splitscreen. Just last night me and a couple friends played Halo 3 splitscreen MP. Much better and more fun than playing over LIVE. Splitscreen will always be better than playing over LIVE, PSN, whatever.

God damn rights holders. Figured it was something like that, just a little pissed I can't play it.
  • batmanboy11 - August 23, 2010 8:47 p.m.

    Looks pretty damn awesome.
  • jpalz - August 23, 2010 8:42 p.m.

@hatebreeder: Simple: Nintendo has the rights for Goldeneye, while Activision has the rights for James Bond. That's why this will only show up in Nintendo systems.

I'm now actually annoyed I sold my Wii, surely they can release a HD version on PSN/XBL
