New DC Universe Online trailer looks spectacular

A text splash will warn you that the footage in the following trailer is “Not Actual Game Play.” But we don’t care. This CG teaser for DC Universe Online, which was screened at Comic-Con this past weekend, looks amazing. The action is fantastic, and we love the way the heroes and villains look. Gone are the super shiny superheroes that always look like they’re in mint condition. In their place, war torn warriors covered in dirt with shredded costumes as their epic battle tears down the surrounding city. Check it out below.

lul, i just wrote on the FORUMS about GR not having a feature of this, cuz i didn't see it... "featured" on the front page... give it a try GR, it needs to be there, just like Deus Ex's and The old republic.

Make movie plz. Yeah, this trailer was incredible. The game still doesn't look like that much fun, but this was awesome. Did anyone else notice how they specifically made it a point to *say* all of the lesser known names? "CYBORG! DEATHSTROKE!"

The Three things I got from that, aside from the Awesomeness, Shazam!, Batman looks fucking awesome and is that Hamill's Joker?

With all due respect to the developers, fuck the game and give me that as a film!!! That was so fucking cool!

Boy did I enjoy seeing Superman getting his ass kicked, I'm guessing seeing that scene the game will be a 16+, with all the stabbing and face burning. I registered for a BETA key when it was announced, about 10 days ago, so hopefully my chances of being accepted are high. Also, does that cinematic remind anyone of the cinematics in X-men legends 1 and 2, and MUA? They were just like that, hiding the fact the game itself looked NOTHING like they suggest. I WANT A MARVEL MMO!!!

It's a shame the game will never live up to this bad assness that is this trailer.

I don't care about the game anymore...Turn this into a movie!

I'm a skeptic but i am looking forward to seeing the reviews and how it plays. It could be epic, or it could be an epic fail. From what i've seen it will more or less play like a fps, rather then an mmo, which i like, mmo's have a tendency to get boring after a while, and as long as the moves and combos can be performed with the gamepad, the gamepad users my actually have an advantage. i wonder if both the pc and ps3 versions will share the same world. I also wonder how much of this game will be pvp based, and if pvp is optional (ie go to a certain area or certain quests bring you into pvp areas.

    Superman looked bad ass!

Fucking stupid. 1. That has nothing to do with the game. That could be a trailer for a Sega Genesis game. 2. What a lame story. It's a prime example of why comic books that take place in done-to-death universes like DC and Marvel are shit. They could make 'New-Interesting-Intellectual-Property Universe Online' instead of '50-year-old-Trite-Hack Universe Online', except they know that all you mindless dickheads will unquestionably buy anything you recognize, so anything else is a risk.

@mahabat isn't that what you want with all of these good guys and bad guys, or do you want he AvP movies
  • mahabat - July 26, 2010 10:28 p.m.

from the looks of the trailer this game will probably lack any story and just be one big cluster f***
  • crumbdunky - July 26, 2010 10:18 p.m.

@sumthingStupid-yeah, sub based all the way sadly:( Also, just like the Deus Ex3 trailer, this is truly awesome but as it's not gameplay also completely useless to me and everyone else here if they're honest. When will we all stop being "oooh! Shiny, shiny CGI!"? MMO game play always looks worse graphically than other genres and if they're hiding it behind this beautiful; pre rendered stuff how bad is it? Loving the wear and tear on the normally untouched heores like everyone else and this DOES set it all up really well and impressively too but no gameplay is weak sauce topping off weak burger in weak seed buns as far as I'm concerned. Maybe even special weak sauce with weak pickles too! That apart I've been pretty keen to find out more about the game for ages and the gameplay we HAVE seen isn't tooo shabby even if the world does look pretty sterile beyond those in the costumes-why so few NPC "normals" running about? If we're saving humanity wouldn't it be wise for there to, y'know, look like it's there to begin with? O6therwisew the classic conbsole MMO question remains:will it translate well to pad based gaming or is K/M STILL preferable even for PS3 gamers? My concern is that until a game is designed, in this area, to be played ONLY by pad based gamers we'll always have half arsed pad copntrols compared to keyboards and mouses. Hope they geet it all right, mind, as normal, WoW style MMORPGs leave me so cold my winky shrinks to less than half it's usual size when I try to play one! UIf it mainly plays like an action game this could be really interesting and, for those who love trad MMOs why shouldn't it? you already have a gazillion games that ape WoW and there's loads of room for a new approach with DC Uni looking the best bet yet for some action gameplay with MMO l;eanings/trimmings. Lets just hope it leaves the keyboarders and padders on a level playing field but as they didn't make us play with a pad, even on PS3 my hopes aren't THAT high for pad gamers. Sony really NEED this or The Agency to operate as well as if not better than it /they do on the PC if console based MMOs are ever gonna take off at all. Even going straight in with the subscription model is a massive risk imho as console gamers aren't reallyt used to that kind of thing at all.
