New Batman: Arkham City trailer kicks criminal ass and has a sly dig at Splinter Cell

By George Clooney’s rock hard bat nipples are we ever pumped for Batman: Arkham City. While a full trailer for Rocksteady’s Asylum sequel will be revealed at Saturday’s VGAs, the developer has let a new teaser trailer briefly sneak its way out of Gotham’s crime-plagued back alleys.

We’ll concede it’s a bit of a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ job. But seriously, what a blinking ace job of teasing us it’s done. The moody lighting, quick editing and brutal, unfussy choreography remind us of the Dark Knight’s introduction in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins.

Also, how much did the dude in the green goggles above remind you of a certain sneaky Cell of the Splinter variety?

Above: Hmmm, there's something familiar about the dude on the right

If Bats beating the bejesus out of Jimmy Goggles wasn’t a playful dig at Sam Fisher’s Splinter Cell series, we’d be surprised.

Above: Sam can get his sneak on, no doubt. But he ain't no match for the Batman's brand of lycra-clad justice

This is without a doubt my most anticipated game of 2011.

Holy Hulking Biceps Batman! Batman joins the recent string of 'roid abusing videogame leads. I can just imagine him sitting in a support group with Redfield and Fenix, squatted down in little folding chairs and pouring their hearts out to one another while trying not to choke on their own neck muscles. >shakes head< what a world we live in

I know it's a pre-rendered teaser/trailer but if the end game in August looks like that, that makes it a DAMN GOOD looking game!

Alright, now make Batman fight Cyborg Raiden!

Whaaat? I love Arkham Asylum (next to Brutal Legend, it's the only game I've ever truly maxed out) but I also love Splinter Cell... no me gusta the hatin'.

I squeeled loudly, and my housemate just banged on my door to get me to shut-up. Curse you for being so awesome, batman!

If Batman: Arkham City has better stealth mechanics this time around, then I'll be happy. But until then, Sam Fisher is better at stealth than Batman is, so far, anyway.

Those graphics were amazing, I can't wait for the day when gameplay looks that good. I am a little disappointed that I knew it was a Batman teaser from the get go the surprise would have been a 10 for me otherwise.

Maybe a sly reference to this: ?
  • Lyon85 - December 8, 2010 4:19 p.m.

Hopefully the special edition of this game doesn't include a scratched up batarang. Batman and Gears 3 in the same year? Batman on the PS3 and Gears on the 360. How will I divide the time?

You can bet I'll be getting this day one. Go Bats!
