New Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag trailer reveals hidden treasure

Ubisoft has unveiled the latest trailer for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. You can watch it right here. It's all about exploration, showing off how Edward Kenway can search the Caribbean for hidden treasure and artifacts. There's loads of gameplay in the video, so it gives you a decent idea of how the game will play. Our verdict: pieces of great!

The most exciting reveals in the trailer? The level of control you have over your ship, the ability to climb the rigging and leap onto an enemy ship to claim its booty, and the fact that there is loads of ambient wildlife in the game. Oh, and you can hunt it too, by harpooning whales.

Black Flag is due out in October on current-gen consoles--yup, including Wii U--with next-gen console and PC versions due a little later in the year.

Yeah, I'm ridiculously excited for this. I can see myself getting dozens if not hundreds of hours out of the naval combat alone. It feels like the franchise can now actually pull off its most ambitious elements. I mean AC3 was great, but it did feel a bit like some areas suffered in order to cram as much in as possible, which doesn't look like the case here. Plus, y'know your own mother-flipping pirate fleet.

Soooo excited for this. Hey GR, are ya'llsshot going to do an Xbox vs ps4 side by side comparison for this?

Thanks GR! I'm eager to see a graphical comparison because right now I think the Xbox controller will feel better.

Damn, that world looks huge. Beautiful too - you can definitely tell the Far Cry 3 team was on board for this one. Can't believe no one thought to make viewpoints and fast-travel spots one and the same until now.

As I look at this, I can't help but think it'd be better off if it were its own game instead of an Assassin's Creed game. I suppose we haven't really seen the traditional AC plot points much yet, but the baggage from that really just seems like an anchor around the neck of a game that looks really fun on its own.
