Michael Keaton joining Kong: Skull Island?

Michael Keaton is currently revelling in the Oscar buzz surrounding his bravura turn in Birdman, but may well be making a return to the conventional blockbuster before too long…

According to Deadline, the actor is currently in discussions with Legendary over an unknown role in the studio’s forthcoming King Kong origin story, Kong: Skull Island.

Should negotiations prove fruitful, Keaton will line up alongside leading man Tom Hiddleston and the recently announced J.K. Simmons, in what is already looking like a hell of a cast.

Plot details are pretty sketchy at this stage, although we do know the film will follow a team of explorers pitching up on the weird and wonderful island that Kong calls home.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts will be directing from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, with the film set to open in the UK and US on 10 March 2017.
