Metal Gear Solid: Rising info, Alan Wake sequel and new BioWare game will be at Spike VGAs Dec 10

In case you somehow missed the media blitz that was last year’s Spike Video Game Awards, it’s a bit like a mini-E3 filled with B-list celebs and terrible award show banter. Honestly the winners hardly matter compared to all the trailers that premier there. Last year we got our first glimpses of Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 and Uncharted 3, and the year before they revealed Arkham City. Now we already know that the Dec 10 event will have at least three big announcements, with the reveal of an Alan Wake sequel, BioWare’s next game, and the first time we’ll see Metal Gear Solid: Rising since E3 2010.

After both E3 and Tokyo Game Show came and went this year without any new info on the game, we worried Rising had been scrapped altogether, but Spike says Hideo Kojima himself will be on hand to “reveal the truth” about the Metal Gear sequel. Meanwhile, we’d heard rumors awhile back about an Alan Wake sequel which we now know is a standalone Xbox Live release, so we’re glad to see the promising series isn’t finished yet. And who knows what BioWare’s next game will be, as Spike didn’t indicate if it was a new franchise or not, just that it would involve a new studio under the BioWare umbrella.

The VGAs also revealed the nominees for Game of the Year: Batman: Arkham City, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Portal 2, Skyrim and Uncharted 3. It will air live on the US cable channel Spike 8 PM ET/5 PM PT Saturday December 10 and if you can stomach the parts that aren’t game trailers, it’s not such a bad time.

this game will be opposite of metal gear solid 3. it will play 10 minutes of raiden and then ALL SNAKE. CALLIN IT RIGHT NAOW.

VGA's are such a joke lol. They have two games listed as nominees that haven't been reviewed yet. How could they even be considered? Apparently you can now win GOTY by reputation alone. Bare in mind, I'm not refuting the fact Zelda or Skyward will be great games, but it does discredit the VGA's as an actual legit awards show. Of course, I'm sure we already knew that. I'm really excited to hear MGS Rising will make an appearance. Kojima Pro almost never disappoints.

Agree with probably everyone else, seriously looking forward to Rising. I'm so Indie, I loved Raiden BEFORE he was a Cyborg Ninja. Or at least, before I knew he was a cyborg ninja.

Hey, I'll take trying to get into a party member's pants over trying to organize my inventory full of hundreds of the same avenger assault rifles and other useless things I've picked while navigating clumsy menus any day.

Where is Metal Gear Solid Rising. It just looks so wicked! Something really different, 2 years have gone and no news. Now have to wait again (ok maybe not as long)
  • Not Snake - November 3, 2011 10:30 p.m.

I'm up for more Dragon Age, but I'm hoping for a new IP. Something different would be a welcome change of pace.
  • Yaro - November 3, 2011 10 p.m.

Rising either gets scrapped or it will be revealed to be the best game ever. :P I also wouldn't mind somewhat new Dragon Age. Linear or open-world I don't care, just make it big, I love that world...
  • Yaro - November 3, 2011 10:01 p.m.

    Disregard "somewhat". =\

Looking forward to hearing more about Rising. Kojima's been too quiet about the game, which is it's good to hear that it'll be back in the public eye soon. Also looking forward to whatever Bioware is cooking up. Maybe Jade Empire 2, but I doubt can always dream though.

As disappointing as DAII was, I'm really hoping this is DA3 (or whatever they would call it). The likely subject matter and what they've said about their future strategy for the game mean it might actually be really good.
  • babyhenchy1 - November 3, 2011 7:51 p.m.

It's a new IP apparently. Though I agree, I would like to see them redeem Dragon Age (though I still thought DAII was good but it didn't live up to Origins).
  • ShowMeYourKitties - November 3, 2011 4:13 p.m.

Wait, Skyrim and Skyword Sword are in their goty nominations? They're not even out yet... I mean I'm sure they'll be pretty amazing, but still...

I watched the vgas last year to see the bioware trailer and i swore unless bioware was there again i would not watch again....................
  • JayQ - November 3, 2011 4:01 p.m.

What if the reason why we haven't seen MGS:Rising in a year is because they changed it into a kinect based game?
  • archnite - November 3, 2011 4:16 p.m.

You sir have just given me nightmare fuel .
  • JayQ - November 3, 2011 3:33 p.m.

Major Nelson tweeted the Alan Wake game is a XBLA downloadable title so i doubt it is a Alan Wake sequel.
  • kyle94 - November 3, 2011 3:27 p.m.

I can't wait, but I just wish that people stopped paying attention to the VGAs. It would be great if video game companies just forgot it exists and abandons it.
  • BladedFalcon - November 3, 2011 3:19 p.m.

F*CKING FINALLY The premise of being able to cut anything you want, any way you want was too good and cool to have been scarped. Can't wait to hear more info about the game again! :D
