Mass Effect anime movie coming in 2012

BioWare and FUNimation are teaming up to produce a Mass Effect anime movie. Scheduled for release in 2012, the straight-to-home-video film will be co-produced by T.O Entertainment, the same company working on the Dragon Age animated film.

BioWare’s own Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series, will be working closely with FUNimation and T.O Entertainment as executive producer of the film. “Over the last few years, we have revealed different pieces of the Mass Effect world through different media. Extending the story through an anime medium is another amazing opportunity for us,” said Hudson. “Partnering with FUNimation ensures that we will bring this rich universe to life with the utmost quality and the same attention to detail that the Mass Effect games are known for.”

Although production on the anime movie has already begun, no concrete details have been released regarding the film’s plot and main characters.

I'm calling it right now. Generic harem anime where every female lusts after Shepard's cock

I'm game for this. If it turns out to be garbage, i'll pretend it doesn't exist. Easy enuff. Cautious optomisim indeed, although i honestly doubt it will be "bad" but i'm sure many will find fault with it for the smallest reason no matter how well its pulled off. ME fans are a devout, extremist group. Of which i am a proud member.

As long as it isn't Live Action.

It's a western RPG, why mess with that?

Yeah this is what EA did with Deadspace, I was expecting this to happen some time with EA and Mass Effect.

Don't like anime at all really, but I love Mass Effect so I will inevitably watch this.

Two of my most favorite things combined, anime and Mass Effect! And its being headed by Bioware! I honestly don't think things could go wrong. Plus, they're really only using anime animation (redundant?) and its not like they're going to drag in the stereotypes along with it. I highly doubt Shepard is going to sprout tentacles with which to fornicate.

sounds awesome. I just visually dont want it to look ANYTHING like the Dead Space animated stuff.

    Mass Effect: Legends?
  • PlainLikeVanilla - April 8, 2011 3:20 a.m.

Well since there isn't really a canon Shepard they would have to focus on something else which could be okay, I guess...

    @YuGiOhisbetterthanMagic: TESTIFY!

I like BioWare, and I like FUNimation... I choose to remain cautiously optimistic.

2012 release, huh? A Mass Effect anime is as clear a sign as any that the EndTimes are at hand. The people misinterpreting the Mayan calendars were right! Seriously though, it'll probably turn out like Berzerk, Golgo 13 or any of those other Western influenced anime that noone will even realize came from Japan unless someone tells them (probably to see the looks on their faces when it disturbs the order of their comfortable stereotypes).

If it says Mass Effect on it, I will purchase it.

As CaptainSaptula has said, have you guys SEEN even the redone Evangelion movies?! They're fantastic. Please curb your stereotypes that all anime is about girls being raped or androgynous male characters being emotional.

It can't be any worse than the Dead Space movies.

@CaptainSpatula: No, Funimation is just a publisher. The Eva rebuilds are by Gainax. I'm really not looking forward to this project. ME is a series about players' choices, and taking those away ruins the entire point of it all. My buzz-cut asexual Fshep will be horrified at how she's spontaneously become a man and is involved with Ash.

All yall is Xenophobes, a drawing style inset going to corrupt the integrity of something. its like saying "holy shit, someone made superman's chin pointy-er, superman sucks now". Me? im game, this is probably going to be tits.

isn't FUNamation the same company that's doing the new Evangelion movies? They've got some pretty talented people there and I'm sure Bioware will keep a tight leash on them as far as characters go. No need to worry about creepy anime influences here. I'm excited for it.

This could actually turn out alright. They can keep the same voice actors and actress from the games, without doing any harm. I also rather enjoy anime, so this could turn out pretty good.
