Kill List director talks bloody romance Sightseers

Kill List director Ben Wheatley chatted to Total Film about his new film, the equally grisly and intriguing Sightseers .

A darkly comic genre-splicer, Sightseers follows Chris (Steve Oram) and Tina (Alice Lowe) as they travel to the Lake District, killing people along the way.

We grilled Wheatley on the origins of the film, more of which you can read in the latest issue of Total Film . Here’s a sample of what he had to say…

What attracted you to the Sightseers script?
I read it, thought it was great and there was the chance of a lot of improv. I wanted to do something free and funny. Amy [ Jump, Wheatley's wife and writer/editor ] and I sorted out the last two acts, made it a but more streamlined. But it’s pretty much the original script, stripped back to essentials.

What were your inspirations?
It has elements of The Honeymoon Killers , Badlands and Bonnie And Clyde , but shot through with Nuts In May .

Sightseers opens in the UK on 30 November 2012.
