How to change your gender in Team Fortress 2

There are a wealth of seedy Team Fortress 2 reskins and remodels: large, jiggly breasts and an abundance of upskirt shots seem to top most modders’ checklists. Being the respectful gentleman that I am, I’ve skipped all that, choosing instead the best female reimaginings of the existing classes – taking key characteristics and incorporating them into a new gender.

But y’know, they’re ladies with guns, so they’re still hot. To use these models, unzip the file contents into your “team fortress 2/tf” folder (for voices, unzip to the “tf/sound”folder). Delete them when you want to reaffirm your masculinity.

Female Medic
Download skin here

The first of TF2 skinning mega-champ Chemical Alia’s (aka Shaylyn Hamm) submissions, this fraulein riffs on the same German stereotypes as the game’s vanilla versions. Have a look here for a detailed breakdown of her creations. The character pack comes with full voiceover, too.

Female Scout

This one does have a notably short skirt, flouting the rules I laid down. Facially, she’s not a huge step away from the original Scout, softening the jutting jaw and toning down the punchable face. No voice pack in this one, but there are custom gibs and face poses.

Female Heavy
Download skin here

Chemical Alia’s femme-Heavy is a departure from the regular bald lump, retaining only the Heavy’s bear-like physique. Again, there’s a full set of voice work, but that must be downloaded and installed separately. Get the audio here

We talked to Chemical Alia when she was a guest host on the show, back on episode 69 of KritzKast. She spoke then of her work creating the female skins. Later in an interview with Robin Walker, creator of Team Fortress 2, we asked him about her skins and the chance that they would find their way onto the main game. He was impressed with her work but pointed out the problems with mismatching hit boxes and differnt silhouettes cast by female roles. The short and tall of this is that we are very unlikely to see female characters in the game propper for some time.

i'm surprised these got mentioned on the site and the scoot and heavy do have soundpacks they are just just pure crap though.

I think the female medic looks the best but I would never say that in the presence of the female heavy as she would likely crush me...

I think cycling/running shorts would fit the female scout better. I like the medic out of all 3. Still, all great mods! Wonder if Valve would actually pick this up (sure hope so). Waiting for a spy and Sniper mod.

Why, yes, ClusterShart that is an awesome way. The female Medic and Heavy is fantastic.

Is it bad that I already had all three of these?

@CH3BURASHKA - Chances are that's what they've been delsying Half-Life 2, Episode 3 for. That and other mods like making portals different colours :D I joke, of course.
  • enlargedhousecats - September 27, 2010 11:24 p.m.

    it's getting cOLD in here
  • Axcleblade - September 27, 2010 11:23 p.m.

    No female engineer? Moving along.

I always thought it was a bit weird there were no females on the TF2 teams. The Pyro is supposedly a woman, but that doesn't count. I figured Valve would be one of the companies most willing to experiment with gender in their games. The medic looks hilariously stuck-up. BTW, I got a crazy idea: on Valentine's Day, Valve should release an update that includes all 9 classes as women, and also a Meet The video featuring all the women. It would be awesome as shit. You payin' attention, Valve?
