Hope in humanity partially restored as Dishonored makes strong UK chart debut

There is hope. The latest UK game chart from chart-compilers Chart Track reveal Bethesda’s verily impressive Dishonored has made its debut at an equally impressive No. 2, just tucking in behind FIFA 13. Even better news, according to Chart Track, the kill-how-you-like (or not) adventure overtakes Sleeping Dogs as ‘the biggest new IP launch so far this year’. It’s great to see a brand new title with so much critical acclaim behind it enjoy some positive sales success.

Other highlights this week include XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which charts at a very respectable No. 7 and becomes publisher Take 2’s biggest selling title of the week, overtaking the mighty Borderlands 2. Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 appear at 3 and 5 respectively. Rather interestingly, Chart Track notes that even if sales of both versions were combined it wouldn’t be enough to chart the Pokémon sequels above Dishonored. Finally, Kinect-only Fable: The Journey limps in at No.37.

Here’s the Top 20 UK software chart in full:

as i'm loving dishonored, i'm super glad you UKers know a good game when you see one. the fact that you people have a soccer game as your number one still speaks volumes steps, i guess.

Football (not 'soccer') is the national sport, so many people who aren't gamers in any shape or form buy FIFA. It's also different to American sports games in that there's only one big sports game here in the UK that people really care about. In the US you've got NFL, ice hockey, basketball and baseball. Here there's FIFA.

Both Dishonoured and White 2 are things I'm wanting to get, but, what with FIFA 3 and Modern Warfare 3 on there, it's a pity the places here don't relate to actual quality of games, but rather popularity. Still, it's nice to see something so fresh get so high up, especially with Black Ops 2 and the latest AssCreed coming out within the next couple of months.

Thank God! I enjoyed the hell out of Sleeping Dogs and am currently loving Dishonored. I haven't bought Xcom yet but only because I don't have time to play it. I wonder what that Ubisoft exec must be thinking after he just publicly denounced this console generation for being too old for any new IPs. Because we all know Naughty Dog's new IP is going to tank......

Retail physical copy only charts, so are in fact absolutely worthless really.

Fantastic news for a fantastic game...seriously something I've enjoyed immensely (I just wish I could go back to last week to play it for the first time again). I tried to get into Sleeping Dogs but sadly the PC version just felt off somehow (I guess I was expecting too much GTA from it) and having Dishonored come along to honor us made me a very happy gamer...Hitman had better not fail us now! Think I'll gift my brother with a copy of Dishonored deserves each and every sale!

This makes me happy :D *Also points and laughs at Fable: The Journey's position*

Dishonored is a great game, definitely has echoes of Half-life 2, Bioshock and the original Deus-ex, which is no bad thing imo. Interesting to see Skyrim is still in the top 10 nearly a year since it was released, tells you a lot about the state of mainstream games this year.

I agree. It seems Bethesda has tow games on top 10 list.

Have yet to play Dishonored. Looks fun, but Im saving up for the deluge of holiday releases like Hitman, Halo, CoD, Assassins Creed and so on and so on...
  • Fox_Mulder - October 15, 2012 6:29 a.m.

All of those games are good fun and all, but they're all pretty much the same as the games that preceded them. I'll be getting all of those, but I highly recommend you pick up Dishonored, because I think it can stand toe-to-toe against AC and Hitman stealth-wise and against Halo and CoD action-wise. Plus, it's something different, and IS vastly different from any of the big releases this year.

I like same. I like knowing what Im going to get. I dont always want the obscure niche indie title that all the scene kids rave about. Dishonored looks good. And I might pick it up at a later time. But not during the huge holiday season.
