GTA IV no friction mod footrace - the outtakes

This week PC Gamer is showcasing one of its favorite absurd mods: the GTA IV no friction mod, which causes cars to careen through Liberty City like children learning to ice skate. We challenged three editors to survive the onslaught of slippery metal doom, which you can see in parts one, two, and three, and today we're presenting the outtakes, because we couldn't help but to record as much of this madness as our hard drives could take. Check out the introduction above if you haven't seen it, and watch our montage of car vs. human lunacy below:

Part One | Part Two | Part Three | Outtakes | How to Mod GTA IV

And for some more Grand Theft Auto goodness, check out our GTA IV cheats page for codes and walkthroughs for all things GTA IV.

even my Mom laughed at this xD (and told me you had pleasant voices) Thanks for this! Makes me really happy that I've bought the whole GTA collection on GG. There goes my productivity for the day ;) Regards from Poland

When I first saw this, I lost it when Evan said that. There's such pain in his voice.

I tried this when I first saw that crazy YouTube video of it. It was amazing! Seemed like I was inches from death every 20 seconds. Unfortunately, all the chaos made my frame rate really shitty.

What are the chances of this mod being found for the ps3 version?
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - November 24, 2011 10:04 p.m.

Afraid it requires editing a config file, which I don't imagine is possible in any version other than PC. (*cough* just one of the many advantages of PC gaming) ;) ...But that's why we're here, to hopefully provide amusement regardless of your system specs.

I managed to get it working on the ps3 version (with the help of Google and some CFW), although the framerate was pretty terrible. Still hilarious.

Well color me purple, Alice Walker! Looks like I made an ignorant assumption. If you have a link to the details of how to do this on PS3, feel free to post it.

Sure. Surprisingly, it's very similar to modding the pc version, the same files are there. You just need a ripped copy of the game (which you BOUGHT OF COURSE HAHAHAHAHA don't sue me sony) You can download the mod tools you need here: http://digiex.net/guides-reviews/console-guides/playstation-3-guides/6782-how-mod-gtaiv-ps3.html Just do everything this guide says, except instead of editing the weapon info file, edit the traction bias in the handling.dat file to -10 or what have you.

Oh man if my pc could handle it, I would buy the fuck out of GTA IV (along with BF3).
  • Zzombie99 - November 24, 2011 2:47 p.m.

Just goes to show, GTA IV is timeless!
  • MeanwhileGuy - November 24, 2011 1:31 p.m.

If I had GTA IV I'd totally be doing that right now, as I don't, I'll settle for laughing until it hurts at the sheer lunacy. Seriously, this is the funniest thing I've seen on the site in months, even if it is from PC Gamer. More of this kinda thing would definitely be on the more awesome side of things.

Much more of this kind of thing to come!
