Gran Turismo 5 final release date revealed (hopefully), along with final, ludicrously long car list

Shhh. Don't say it out loud. Don't even think it with too much enthusiasm. We don't want to jinx it at this late stage. But we've just been told that Gran Turismo 5 with definitely, totally, without doubt, even should the vengeful gods strike us down with the apocalypse, be releasing later this month. We've been given the final release date and the lists of all the cars and tracks in the game too, the latter presumably to publically lock down the content so that Polyphony can't decide that it really needs RC monster trucks now and toddle off to spend another two years putting them in.

So, without further ado (there's been more than enough ado already), here we go with the details...

Gran Turismo 5 will be released on Wednesday, the 24th of November. That's just 12 days from today, which frankly feels surreal given how long this thing's been in development. Regarding the delays, Polyphony Digital President Kazunori Yamauchi says:

"Satisfying the loyal Gran Turismo followers is at the heart of all of our efforts, which is why it was such a difficult decision to delay the release of the game, and one which we did not take lightly. I can only apologise to everyone for making you wait so long, and I hope that when you try out the wealth of driving experiences available in Gran Turismo 5, you will not be disappointed"

And as for that wealth of experiences, well, we have the full car list over on the next page, and it is bloody wealthy indeed. Like a fat medieval king feasting on roast peasants while sitting on a massive pile of gold. Click over for probably the longest internet page you have ever read. And if your retinas haven't burned out after that, you can read the full track list too.

I hope the wait is "finally" over... now, the only thing I need to get is a Bravia 3D TV problem is, how to afford it lol...

And no classic Pontiac GTO? WTF! this is a little bit dissapointing
  • RedAppolyon - November 13, 2010 10:14 a.m.

And because EA has the Monopoly on Porsches they do not appear. F'n gay.
  • CreedKotetsu - November 13, 2010 5:17 a.m.

Well, I see my 280 z is there, but no Firebirds? I was looking forward to driving my Trans Am. . . :(
  • XSgtShootemupX - November 13, 2010 1:45 a.m.

I come back and everyone is still getting butthurt about there being no Porsches. This happens every time a GT is released. EA OWN the right to the Porsche name when it comes to video games. (See Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed) The only reason Forza has them is because Microsoft have got ridicuously deep pockets. Polyphony and Sony just do not want to dig out for them.

@FoxdenRacing RUF is Porsche and always has been in GT noobsauce
  • RamenDragon - November 13, 2010 12:01 a.m.

Man... this is too much. I won't be able to tell the difference between one car and the next... No matter how much my girlfriend loves Gran Turismo, I can really see myself just buying Need for Speed. With the game out so soon, I wonder when review copies/reviews will show up?

@GR_Mike: I did see that a few RUFs made the list, and that made me smile...but on the flip side they're so heavily modified they're no longer Porsches; Germany's given them manufacturer status, their overhauls are that extensive. You're also missing out on all the well-known or historic models, like the '73 911, the 914/6, the 944, the 959, the GT3-RS... It's akin to leaving out Corvettes but including the Callaway Sledgehammer, or leaving out the Skylines altogether but throwing in the Mine's versions. These are huge omissions we're talking about here... [We now return you to Rant, volume 2] For all the hype and promises and potential both the game and the studio have, they really seem to have dropped the ball. Rather than a huge list of off-beat or rare cars, we've got tons and tons of texture jobs, leaving some Star Destroyer sized holes. There's a lot of famous and historic cars in there that're just plain missing, let alone the obscure ones the series is has a reputation for. Off the top of my head: Ferrari FXX Ferrari F50 and/or F50 GT Ferrari Dino Ferrari GTO Ferrari 512 Testarossa Lamborghini Diablo and/or Diablo GT [I see the track-worthy one made it, at least] Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT Lamborghini Reventon Maserati MC12 Mazda RX-7 [pre-FC] or even the older RX cars Anything by Saleen that's not the S7 Saab 9000 Aero [or ANY Saab, for that matter] Subaru SVX/Alcyone There are 20 3000GTs, and not a single one from the first [91-94] OR third [99] generation; they're all second-gen! Anything by Vector Aeromotive Noble M400 Zonda F Anything by Koenigsegg For all the hype of them having F1 cars, I see all of 3...2 Ferraris and a McLaren; GT3 had more formula cars than that. So much for being a trump Williams, no Sauber, no Renault, no Brawn/Mercedes, no Red Bull or Torro Rosso, no Toyota, no Force India, none of the historic ones, just two from this year and Kimi Raikonnen's rocket from 2007. I stand by my previous statement: If you lay awake at night wondering what it'd be like to drive every flea-bitten Miata variant ever built, GT5 is going to be a wet dream. As far as car porn is concerned, it's seriously lacking. Scrape out all the tweak jobs [seriously, how different is the '95 Skyline from the '96 and '97?] and BS [do they really need to add the Skyline 34 2 more times for a special edition color? Couldn't they have just added it as a paint option?], and you're left with a car list that's close to the same size as...if not weaker than overall...GT4's. On the bright side, they managed to throw the Initial D fans a bone; I see all the important cars from that anime on the list. [Trueno Shuichi Shigeno Edition being the dead givaway...Shigeno-san is the author.]

  • bongzilla - November 12, 2010 8:24 p.m.

Anyone know, if you'll be able to play your own music? It would seem to me that they would be the kind to say they want you to expereince the game the way they intended.. but yea anyone know?
